Dry Sump Motorcycles was set up in February 2020 with the company name emerging from a discussion down the local pub where many “silly” names were considered. The name “Dry Sump Motorcycles” relates to the type of motorcycles that we are particularly interested to work on. Old British motorcycles often use this oil system and an explanation of how it works can be seen in this video:
Although Dry Sump Motorcycles was set up in February 2020 as a partnership, both partners, Adam Pope and Lucien Burkhardt, have been in other self employed partnerships with P B Mechanical Services set up in January 2002, Ellerbeck Narrowboats set up in March 2007 and also own The Boatyard Bus Cafe set up in September 2018. All four businesses are currently trading and established within The Boatyard just outside Chorley in Lancashire.
The four businesses are all completely different and the reason fr this is to make the most out of the potential The Boatyard has to offer and reduce travelling costs by reducing the amount of work we undertake away from the premises.
Where Adam is the mechanical whiz, we also employ Laurence who is a whiz at the cosmetic side of building a motorcycle where we have set up a new spray painting room within the workshop so we can undertake 95% of the work of building a motorcycle ourselves. You will find Lucien in the office where he looks after the admin side of things.
